My favourite thing about reading is getting lost in a really good book. From the characters that make you able to relate to the plot that makes you not want to stop reading.
The unfortunate thing is sometimes a book like that and an author that good can be very hard to find.
Don’t get me wrong, I can’t count on both hands how many times I’ve been captured and drawn in by a book over the years but it wasn’t until I found Stephenie Meyer that I truly knew what a great book was.
She’s a great author but yet, not the best I’ve ever read. Her Twilight series captivated me and had my attention all the way through. But, it wasn’t until I read The Host by Stephenie Meyer that I knew what it was like for a book to completely hook me in. I couldn’t put it down and I found sad when I wasn’t reading it, wondering what would happen next.
The strangest thing about The Host though, it’s a Sci-Fi book. I’ve never been someone who could get into Science Fiction and yet my favourite book falls in that genre.
I never knew what a great author was until I found Sara Shepard. I first started with her books from the Pretty Little Liars series, I could read three of her books in a day. Four if I had the time. I have always been an avid reader, but I have never been the sort of person to read that much in a day. However I couldn’t put that series of books down. I would be forever guessing what was trying to happen next, it wouldn’t be far from the truth to say I had an addiction to these particular books.
I plan to read the next series by Sara Shepard soon: The Lying Game series. I have no doubt that it will be just as addictive as the Pretty Little Liars series.
So what’s your favourite book? What made you keep reading? Who is your favourite author? Why would you reccommend them to me?
I too read (and enjoyed) the Twilight series, but I got even more enjoyment from the tumblr reasoningwithvampires.
If you want to know why some people think Twilight is poorly written, this is an irreverent work of art. The Tumblr author is snide and makes no secret of her problems with the stories. She literally dismantles the book and takes it apart sentence by sentence.
If grammar was taught this way at school more people would be interested in the subject.
I love her dedication to her mission and her attention to detail, and while I agree with much of what she says, it doesn’t take away from the fact I devoured the books. (So maybe the lesson is good writing isn’t everything.)
